Rules & scoring

Here are the rules and scoring scheme. They are divided into four sections.

The term Penalty Points, identified by the symbol (pp), are there to distinguish between points that will be removed if the driver/team is disqualified and those that will remain.

As always, the judges decision is final on all rulings. Arguments may lead to additional penalties being applied.

Driver

Each driver is scored under the following rules:

  • Drivers will score points for finishing in the top three places after Qualifying. Points will be scores as 3 for first, 2 for second and 1 for third.
    • Any penalties to be applied to their qualifying position which are known before the session takes place will be applied.
    • Any changes following the final qualification will not affect the qualifying result.
  • The top 10 drivers score as follows: 15, 12, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. These only apply to finishing drivers.
  • Each driver who scores as above, scores an additional 10 points.
  • If a driver is listed by the FIA as finishing the race, they score 1 point for each place they make up in the race from their starting grid position. This starting position may differ from their qualifying position. Points are not lost for losing places. Note that driver does not have to complete all the laps to qualify.
  • The first driver to retire from the race loses 6 points. The second loses 5 points and so on for the first six retirements. Drivers who do not qualify are not counted as retiring first.
  • The driver who records the fastest lap scores 5 points.
  • (pp) Each driver-based penalty loses the driver 5 points. This covers Stop-Go, Drive-Thru, 10-second pit stop penalties and having time added to the drivers final time at the end of the race.
  • Failure to record a time in a qualifying session having attempted a lap loses the driver 2 points. A driver is not penalised if they do not take part in qualifying.
  • If a driver qualifies but fails to make the starting grid, they lose 2 points.
  • (pp) A driver loses 1 point if they stall on the starting grid or in the pits.
  • Any driver who retires from the (first) formation lap loses 5 points. They do not lose additional points detailed above if they are allowed to take the spare car.
  • (pp) A driver loses 5 points for taking out their team-mate from the race.
  • A driver earns 10 points for starting a punch-up with another driver on race day.
  • (pp) A driver loses 2 points for driving into the pitlane and driving straight out again without stopping (unless for a drive-thru penalty).
  • (pp) A driver loses 10 points for running over a member of their own pit crew.
  • (pp) A driver loses 5 points for crashing out whilst following the safety car.
  • (pp) A driver loses 10 points for being hit by a recovery tractor during the race.

Chassis

Note Only the top chassis is scored for each team. For example if McLaren came in 1st and 2nd, and Williams 3rd, then the final standings would show McLaren 1st and Williams 2nd.

Each chassis is scored under the following rules:

  • The top eight chassis score as follows: 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. This only applies to finishing chassis.
  • Each chassis which scores as above scores an additional 10 points.
  • The first chassis to retire from the race loses 6 points. The second loses 5 points and so on for the first six retirements.
  • (pp) 5 points are lost for each wheel lost during the race (this does not include punctures, or wheels coming off in crashes).
  • 5 points are awarded for a fire in your own pit.

Engine

Note Only the top engine is scored for each team. For example if McLaren came in 1st and 2nd, and Williams 3rd, then the final standings would show McLaren 1st and Williams 2nd.

Each engine is scored under the following rules:

  • The top eight engines score as follows: 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. This only applies to finishing engines.
  • Each engine which scores as above scores an additional 10 points.

Other

The following additional rules also apply:

  • Each team must consist of three drivers, one chassis and one engine.
  • All three selected drivers must be from different teams.
  • The selected chassis and engine must be from different teams.
  • No team who's value is over £45 million will be accepted into the Championship. If a team is over this value it will be returned to the owner. It is the Owner's responsibility to ensue their team is valid by the closing date for entries.
  • No two teams can have the same driver/engine/chassis combination. It is first-come first-served.
  • Drivers lose all points for themselves if they are disqualified, except for Penalty Points, which will still be counted. The driver, chassis and engine scores for the entire race will then all be recalculated accordingly. The disqualified driver will be listed as finishing between those who completed the race, and those who didn't, but will not score points. The deadline for rescoring is by the start of the following race.
  • Only one team can be entered per person.
